Dear Evergreen Families,
Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year! We are excited to see our returning families and welcome our new families to our Evergreen Academy community. As a staff, we are looking forward to getting to know each and every child in our classrooms. September is a busy month filled with many happenings around the school. Be on the lookout for information about Picture day, Curriculum Nights and our Afterschool Enrichment program sign-ups.
Please join us on Wednesday, September 27th (Rooms 3,5,6) or Thursday, September 28th (Rooms 1,2,7,8) from 6pm-7pm for our Curriculum Nights. This is a wonderful opportunity for you to hear your child’s teacher discuss his/her plans and expectations for the school year.
Lifetouch School Portraits will be here to photograph the children on September 21st and 22nd. We’ll be photographing individuals as well as class photos. Uniforms are encouraged but not required for photo day.
We would also like to remind all families about our sick policy. The purpose of our sick policy is to reduce the spread of illness among children and encourage full recuperation of sick children before they return to school. We depend on parents to assist us in maintaining a safe and healthy environment for all of our children. We ask any sick child to stay home where he/she is most relaxed and comfortable. Children may be sent home if they have any specific symptoms listed below. In addition, a child must be free of all of these specified symptoms for at least 24 hours before he/ she can return to school.
The symptoms are as follows:
- A fever of 100 degrees or more
- Vomiting within the previous 24 hour period
- Diarrhea within the previous 24 hour period
- A heavy nasal discharge indicative of infection
- A constant cough or sore throat
- A skin rash (excluding diaper rash)
- Head Lice
- Symptoms of a communicable disease
Following an illness, a child may return to school once he/she has either been seen by a doctor or it has been determined the illness is not contagious. (A doctor’s clearance may be requested.)
Sincerely,
Lindsey Taylor, Principal

Lunch & Snack Policies
Lunch
Planning ahead with your young child to prepare the lunch together can be a wonderful activity to share. Older children can be expected to take on this responsibility. Children staying for lunch should bring food and drink that are nutritious and healthy. Please do not send soda, candy, or food high in sugar. With respect to our environment all food should be packed in recyclable containers and drinks in thermoses or reusable containers. We will encourage your child to finish what you send with them and return anything uneaten at the end of the day. The children will not be sharing their lunches.
Snacks
Snack time is an integral part of our Practical Life curriculum. It is a learning experience that teaches grace and courtesy. Evergreen Academy provides nutritious snacks as part of our regular program however, you are welcome to send your own snacks from home for your child to eat at snack time.
Nuts and Peanut Butter
Due to the severity of some children’s allergic reaction to peanuts and tree nuts, we request the parents’ cooperation in creating a “peanut and nut free” environment.
