Our third graders recently visited the Wing Luke Museum and went on a walking tour of the International District. They have been studying different cultures and learning about the experiences of various groups of
people who have immigrated to the United States.
First Grade Farm Unit
First Grade Farmers! Our first graders’ farm study is an interdisciplinary unit in money, math, social studies and poetry. Using a simulated format, students become farmers and build a paper farm according to land use codes that regulate both the amount of space needed and the cost of materials for each animal on their farm. Students also learn about various farm animals and this information is incorporated into their study of poetry. Our first graders’ field trip to a working farm helped them see the interconnectedness between farm and table.
